Ricardo Horta was born in Viseu-Portugal. He went to Alves Martins High School, and subsequently completed a degree in Medicine at the University of Coimbra with distinction (2003). In October 2005, he entered in one of the three national vacancies that gave direct access to Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency at São João University Hospital. He currently works as a plastic surgeon, and since 19 th of March 2021 he is chief of the department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of São João University Hospital. He holds a PhD in (passed with distinction) from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto.

His history has been marked by grea t challenges and achievements, in an attempt to solve many and varied problems (see CV I/II). His work seeks to have meaning in making human beings happier. He believes that happiness is not achieved with the possession of material goods and luxuries.

He is dedicated body and soul to his work, searching even in the most complex situations, the best art and the best knowledge to overcome the goals that the vast majority of people sees as unattainable. This altruism reconciles with great dedication to his work, taking an average of 1000 annual operations.
